PILT 2050- Aviation Meteorology I took this class my spring semester of 2012 at SLCC. I originally took this class for my major, but now it is only an elective. I have posted my paper on the workings of lightning with a reflection below.
Reflection What is Lightning? Well this is exactly what I learned in this assignment. This paper is on my ePortfolio because I found the subject to be very interesting. I have always been fascinated by how the natural world works, and lightning is no exception. For this paper we had to choose a weather phenomenon and write a paper/ presentation on it. Here I have posted my paper for the assignment.
I think that this assignment is a great representation of how when I am passionate about a project it shines through. It also demonstrates my ability to reason effectively using the available evidence I gathered, and awareness that knowledge is dynamic and builds on new evidence and alternative perspectives. That is actually one of the SLCC learning goals but not only does this assignment demonstrate critical thought, it shows how I can gather and use technology to communicate effectively. |
The Phenomenon of Lightning Lightning is one of the most powerful displays of nature’s power. It is both deadly and beautiful. “From this discharge of atmospheric electricity (lightning), a leader of a bolt of lightning can travel at speeds of 220,000 km/h (140,000 mph), and can reach temperatures approaching 30,000 °C (54,000 °F), hot enough to fuse silica sand into glass channels known as fulgurites, which are normally hollow and can extend some distance into the ground.”(Rene) .......
